Belongings Hold Memories. Make Sure They’re Safe.

Product Overview

If you rent an apartment, house, condo, or even a dorm room, you may not think you need insurance. But in the event that fire, theft, or vandalism damages your property, it’s unlikely that your landlord will pay to replace your belongings.

At Prince Insurance Group, we know that you’ve most likely invested a lot of time and money in your personal property, and it’s up to you to take care of it. Having a Renters Insurance, or Tenants Insurance, policy can pay for the cost of replacing your belongings if they are damaged due to a covered accident, or if they’re stolen.

Depending on your policy, your insurance will pay to replace items using one of two methods: Actual Cash Value (ACV) or Replacement Cost. With ACV coverage, your belongings are insured only for the amount in which they are currently worth, while Replacement Cost will pay for the expense of replacing the items with brand new ones.

Additional Insurance Options

Also included in your Renters Insurance is Liability Coverage to safeguard yourself from injury claims that occur in your home. If someone gets hurt on your property, your insurance can pay the related medical payments and expenses, and provide for the cost of legal support if you are sued.

In the event that a fire or other damage makes your residence uninhabitable and places you in a “loss of use” situation, your Renters Insurance may temporarily reimburse you for the cost of another residence in which to live.

Representatives from Prince Insurance Group are committed to working with you to design a policy that ensures you get the options you want at a price you can afford.

Common questions about Renters Insurance

Renters insurance: what is it?

Renters insurance can be described as a type of policy that keeps items in your home protected. If your belongings get lost or damaged because of theft, water damage, fires, or a similar disaster, then renters insurance can provide compensation to replace those things. If your home becomes uninhabitable, then renters insurance can cover the expenses that come with temporary housing as your rental is repaired.

What is covered by renters insurance?

Renters insurance will cover things in an apartment like jewelry, clothes, electronics, furniture, and anything else that isn’t bolted down. It might even cover your belongings not in your residence physically (i.e., a laptop gets damaged by slipping out of your backpack or is stolen while you’re on vacation). In such cases, rental insurance can cover the costs of replacing it. Some renters insurance can cover expenses that you would incur while residing somewhere else as your home gets repaired, post-disaster. Lastly, renters insurance can cover liability and/or legal expenses if you are sued by somebody who sustains an injury in your apartment.

What isn’t covered by renters insurance?

Renters insurance keeps things protected from damages, accidents, and theft. However, it will not cover everything. For instance, renters insurance doesn’t offer protection against:

  • Damages to the actual building (this will be covered by owners insurance).
  • Valuable or rare items like art (a rider will be needed for these).
  • Accidental loss at the fault of the owner.
  • Earthquakes.
  • Damage caused by an owner’s pet.
  • Floods.
